The difference between 1235 and 8079 aluminum foil

The majority of the 6um-7um aluminum foil produced for the market in the world is processed using 1235 alloy, however certain double-zero foil producers have started using 8079 alloy to produce 6um-7um aluminum foil. To get the final foil billets of 0.28 mm–0.30 mm in H14 condition, both alloys are cold rolled three times to a thickness of 0.28 mm–0.30 mm, and the same intermediate annealing procedure is utilized to roll to a thickness of 0.5 mm.

The 8079 alloy foil, which is 6um to 7um thick, has a higher tensile strength and elongation than the foil made of 1235 alloy, and it has a much reduced amount of pinholes. Due to these two benefits, 8079 alloy is increasingly replacing 1235 alloy in the market. Because productivity is valued in the European and American markets, higher performance foils may be processed at faster rates without damaging tapes. One of the key causes of the rising use of 8079 alloy in the Chinese market is due to this.

The high content of Fe and the fine reinforcement by Fe elements to achieve the strength and elongation of aluminum foil at the same time are the primary causes of the 6um aluminum foil 8079 alloy’s high performance. The lower content of residual solid solution Si in the matrix may also play a role in the alloy’s small pinholes.
