Aluminum 1100 is a soft, non-heat treatable, low strength alloy with high corrosion resistance. 1100 aluminum is one of the softest aluminum alloys and is therefore not used in high strength or high pressure applications. Although pure aluminum is often cold worked, it can also be hot worked, but more commonly it is shaped by spinning, stamping and drawing processes, none of which require the use of high heat.

Alloy 1100 is a commercially pure aluminum with a purity of at least 99.00%. It has high thermal conductivity with good corrosion resistance, machinability and weldability. Deep-drawn applications, spinning, fan blades, nameplates and metal products are typical applications.

These processes produce aluminum in the form of foil, sheet, round bar or rod, plate, strip and wire. Aluminum 1100 can also be welded; resistance welding is possible, but it can be difficult and usually requires the attention of a skilled welder. 1100 aluminum is just one of several common aluminum alloys with a soft texture, low strength, and a minimum aluminum content of 99%, which is commercially pure aluminum. Copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, silicon, titanium, vanadium and zinc make up the rest. It cannot be hardened by heat treatment and is very easy to form.

Cold working is the most common way to form aluminum 1100. A cold metalworking process is any metal shaping or forming process that is performed at or near room temperature. Aluminum 1100 can be shaped into many different products, including chemical equipment, railroad tank cars, fins, dials, nameplates, cookware, rivets, reflectors and sheet metal. The plumbing and lighting industries also use aluminum 1100, as do many other industries.

A highly sought-after alloy, aluminum 1100 offers excellent machinability and maintains strength and electrical conductivity at low temperatures. Aluminum 1100 has many commercial and industrial applications, including: fins, heat exchanger fins, spinning hollow parts, dials and nameplates, gift items, engraved and stamped shapes, light tools, food containers, household foil, cookware, rivets, and sheet metal work. Aluminum 1100 performs well in thermoforming and cold forming and can be easily welded by all conventional methods.
